Model 01 is one of the smallest knives in the Bertalan Farkas hunting knife collection. It is not specifically recommended for hunting (though feedback suggests it is surprisingly good for skinning, too :')), but the master craftsman designed it primarily for everyday small tasks that require a small but very sharp knife.

We recommend the 01 hunting knife to those looking for a versatile small knife. It is best suited for slicing bacon and dining.

The Maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began learning the basics of knife-making in the 1970s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively crafting hunting knives by hand in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of knives sold and satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knives on his hunts, actively testing them in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

• 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected quality materials.
• The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is their high functionality, and as such, their design fully meets the needs of hunters.
• The soul of these hunting knives is the German Krupp N-695 steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed hardness of 59-60 HRC. Bertalan Farkas cuts the knife shape out of the steel plate himself, and grinds, tempers, and sharpens them by hand. Every design is custom-made. The edge is ground to a razor-sharp finish. These knives are remarkably sharp.
• Choice of handle material: The handles are made from quality genuine stag horn or tropical hardwood, depending on your preference. Some handle materials are available for an extra charge.
• The hunting knives come with high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheaths, crafted to fit each model. (Included in the listed price.) The leather sheaths are also handcrafted by Bertalan Farkas, who cuts and sews them himself.
• Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an extra charge.

Hunting knife engraving (extra service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas using traditional hand-chiseling methods. Hunting knife engraving is available for an extra charge.

Only monograms and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

Monogram engraving on model 01 can be requested on the bolster, not on the blade, due to lack of space: It consists of the initials of the surname and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. Combinations like Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc., count as one letter; please place a period after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs. etc.

Engraving options:

• Top image: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
• Bottom image: Monogram without decoration

Number engraving on the other side of the bolster: available on model 01 without decoration. It consists of one number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays or anniversaries. Full dates or inscriptions do not fit due to the small size of the knife.

Handle Materials

Stag horn handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of a red deer stag. We use only selected, high-quality stag horn. The result is beautiful, with the contrasting, knobby texture characteristic of antler.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

The vast majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed. Since we receive many orders, please expect a waiting period of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed because the engraving must be done before the blade is heat-treated, as it can only be chiseled in that state. After heat treatment, it becomes so hard that it cannot be engraved by hand.
