Premium Quality Hunting Knife, Bertalan Farkas Model 02

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

We recommend the 02 hunting knife to those who want a smaller knife that truly fits well in the hand. Thanks to its shape, it is specifically recommended for gutting and dressing game.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the professional basics of knifemaking back in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively handcrafting hunting knives in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and many satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter might need when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knife on his hunts, testing them actively in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected quality materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is their high functionality; accordingly, their design fully meets the needs of hunters.
  • The soul of the hunting knives is the German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed hardness of 59-60 HRC. Bertalan Farkas personally cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet, and he grinds, tempers, and sharpens them himself. Every design is proprietary. The knife edge is honed to a razor edge. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, according to preference. Handle materials can be chosen as desired. Some handle materials are available for an extra charge.
  • The hunting knives come with a high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheath in a design appropriate for the model. (Included in the indicated price.) The leather sheaths are also handcrafted masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas; he cuts and sews them himself.
  • Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an extra charge.

Hunting knife engraving (paid service):

The engraving is performed traditionally by hand by Bertalan Farkas using a chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an extra charge.

Only initials and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

Content consists of the first and last name initials, a maximum of 2-3 letters. The Hungarian digraphs Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc. count as one letter; please place a period after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • In the top photo: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • In the bottom photo: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Content is 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" dropdown menu when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of a red deer stag. We exclusively use selected, top-quality deer antler as handle material. The result is very beautiful, with a contrasting, rugged texture characteristic of antlers.

Thuia burl handle material

Moroccan thuia burl is a rare, beautifully patterned type of wood native to North Africa; its beautiful, rare wood has been praised for millennia, and its oil is used for various rituals. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the nodules on the root system, from which we craft these knife handles. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a speckled, swirled pattern, with a pleasant aroma.

Optional decorative rivets for wood handles (paid service)

For wood handle materials, metal decorative rivets can be chosen as desired. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is rugged and the rivet cannot be fitted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, from alloys corresponding to their color, and black or colored resin. There are animal-themed and geometric rivets as well.

The plain (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal-themed and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and vizsla. These rivets have a diameter of 8-10 mm. They are placed in the handles of the hunting knives in the following arrangement: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of plain (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this, you can select the appropriate option above under "Decorative rivet in the handle." The current prices of the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected according to preference after choosing a wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

A very large proportion of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed. Since we receive many orders, unfortunately, one must expect a waiting period of several weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed, because the engraving must be performed before the blade is heat-treated, as it is still engravable in this state. After heat treatment, it becomes too hard to be engraved by hand.

Important information about the custom design

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is made individually. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used – such as antler and wood – can vary from piece to piece, which is why no two knives are exactly the same.

The product photos illustrate the nature and possible design of the given model. Some optional details shown in the images – such as rivets, decorations, or engravings – may differ from the selected version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the individual choices made on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a defect, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
