Premium hunting knife, Bertalan Farkas model 03

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

Model 03 has been updated!
The knife's bronze bolster has been given a shorter design. The knife's characteristic shape and utility features remain unchanged.

The 03 hunting knife is one of our oldest models. It is an excellent all-purpose hunting knife, equally suitable for skinning and dressing. We recommend it to those looking for a knife that offers a good grip without being too heavy.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the fundamentals of knifemaking back in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively handcrafting hunting knives in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and many satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knife on his hunts, so he actively tests them in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected quality materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality; accordingly, their design fully meets the needs of hunters.
  • The soul of the hunting knives is the German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to achieve a guaranteed 59-60 HRC hardness. Bertalan Farkas cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet himself, grinds, tempers, and sharpens them. Every shape is an original design. The edge profile of the hunting knife is a razor edge. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Customizable handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, as desired. Handle materials can be selected according to preference. Some handle materials are available for an additional charge.
  • The hunting knives also come with high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheaths, designed to fit each model. (Included in the indicated price.) The leather sheaths are also handcrafted masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas, cut and stitched by him personally.
  • Customizable bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an additional charge.

Hunting knife engraving (paid service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas traditionally by hand with a chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an additional charge.

Only monograms and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

It consists of the initials of the surname and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc. count as one letter; please place a period after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • Top image: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • Bottom image: Monogram without decoration

Number engraving on the other side of the blade: Consists of 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" dropdown menu when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from red deer stag antler. We use only selected, best-quality deer antler as handle material. The result is very beautiful, with a contrasting, gnarly texture characteristic of antlers.

Burl thuja handle material

Moroccan burl thuja is a rare, beautifully patterned wood native to North Africa, appreciated for thousands of years for its beautiful, rare wood, while its oil is used for various rituals. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the burls on the root system; the hunting knife handles are also made from this. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a spotted, wrinkled pattern, with a pleasant aroma.

Optional decorative rivets for wood handles (paid service)

For wood handle materials, metal decorative rivets can be selected as desired. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is gnarly and the rivet cannot be fitted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy corresponding to their color, and black or colored synthetic resin. There are animal and geometric rivets available as well.

The smooth (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and vizsla. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed in the hunting knife handles in the following configuration: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of smooth (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this option, you can select the appropriate option under the "Decorative rivet in the handle" section above. The current prices of the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer various decorative rivets that can be selected as desired after choosing the wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

The vast majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed. Since we receive many orders, please expect a waiting period of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed because the engraving must be done before the blade is heat-treated, as it is still engravable in that state. After heat treatment, it is too hard to be engraved by hand.

Important information about custom finishes

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is made individually. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used – such as antler and wood – may vary from piece to piece, which is why no two knives are exactly alike.

The product photos illustrate the character and possible design of the given model. Certain optional details shown in the pictures – such as rivets, decorations, or engravings – may differ from the selected version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the individual choices specified on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a defect, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
