Premium quality hunting knife, Bertalan Farkas model 04
⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks
We recommend the model 04 hunting knife for those who desire a large, robust, and heavier blade. Its shape is best suited for skinning, but it is also suitable for all types of hunting tasks.
The maker, Bertalan Farkas
Bertalan Farkas began mastering the professional foundations of knifemaking in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively handcrafting hunting knives in small batches for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and satisfied customers.
Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knives on his hunts, actively testing them in real-life conditions.
Features of the hunting knives:
- 100% handmade hunting knife using selected quality materials.
- The primary characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is their high functionality; accordingly, their design fully satisfies hunters' needs.
- The heart of the hunting knives is the German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed hardness of 59-60 HRC. Bertalan Farkas cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet himself, and performs the grinding, tempering, and sharpening himself. Every design is his own. The blade edge is ground to a razor edge. The knives are remarkably sharp.
- Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, depending on preference. Handle materials can be selected according to your needs. Some handle materials are available for an extra charge.
- The hunting knives also come with a high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide sheath in a design appropriate for the model. (Included in the indicated price.) The leather sheaths are also handcrafted masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas; he cuts and sews them himself.
- Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an extra charge.
Hunting knife engraving (paid service):
The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas in the traditional way with a hand chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an extra charge.
Only initials and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.
It consists of the initials of the surname and first name, a maximum of 2-3 letters. The Hungarian digraphs (Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc.) count as one letter; please place a dot after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.
Engraving options:
- In the top picture: Initials + oak leaf decoration
- In the bottom picture: Initials without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Consists of 1 set of numbers, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays and anniversaries.
If you would like an initial and/or number engraving, please select one of the options from the "Initial engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" drop-down menus when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.
Handle materials
Deer antler handle material
One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of a red stag. We use only selected, top-quality deer antler as handle material. The result is very beautiful and contrasting, with the knobby texture characteristic of antler.
Thuya burl handle material
Moroccan thuya burl is a rare, beautifully patterned wood native to North Africa, celebrated for its beautiful rare wood for millennia, and its oil is used for various ceremonies. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the burls on the root system, from which we make the hunting knife handles. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a dotted, swirled pattern, with a pleasant fragrance.
Optional decorative rivets for wooden handles (paid service)
Decorative metal rivets can be selected for wooden handle materials upon request. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is knobby, and the rivet cannot be fitted neatly.)
The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy corresponding to their color, and black or colored resin. There are animal and geometric rivets as well.
The plain (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are the deer, wild boar, and pointer dog. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed into the hunting knife handles in the following arrangement: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of plain (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this, you can select the appropriate option under the "Decorative rivet for handle" section above. The current prices for the rivets can be found in the same menu.
We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected upon request after choosing a wooden handle material.
Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?
The vast majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed, and since we receive many orders, unfortunately, one must expect a waiting period of a few weeks.
Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed, as the engraving must be performed before the blade is heat-treated, as it is only engravable in this state. After heat treatment, it becomes too hard to be engraved by hand.
