Premium quality hunting knife, Bertalan Farkas model 05

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

The 05 knife is one of our oldest and most robust knife models. We recommend it to those who desire a large, heavy, and substantial knife. Despite its size, it is very ergonomic and a useful companion, capable of handling any hunting task. Bertalan Farkas, the maker of these knives, has been hunting with a model 05 for 15 years now.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the professional basics of knife making in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively handcrafting hunting knives in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, thanks to which he can boast thousands of sold hunting knives and satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter might need when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knife on his hunts, so he actively tests them in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife made from selected quality raw materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality, and their design fully meets the needs of hunters accordingly.
  • The heart of the hunting knives is German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to achieve the guaranteed 59-60 HRC hardness. Bertalan Farkas cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet himself, grinds, tempers, and then sharpens them. Every shape is his own design. The hunting knife's edge is razor-sharp. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made of quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, as desired. Handle materials can be selected according to your needs. Some handle materials are available for an extra charge.
  • The hunting knives come with excellent quality, also handmade, genuine cowhide sheaths in a design appropriate for the models. (The price shown includes this.) The leather knife sheaths are also handcrafted masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas; he cuts and sews them himself.
  • Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an extra charge.

Hunting knife engraving (paid service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas traditionally by hand with a chisel. Hunting knife engraving is available for an extra charge.

Only initials and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake engraving full names or words.

It contains the initials of the surname and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc. count as one letter; please place a dot after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • In the top picture: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • In the bottom picture: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: It contains 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend it for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, choose one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" drop-down menus when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of a red deer stag. We exclusively use selected, top-quality deer antler as the handle material. The result is very beautiful, with the contrasting, knobby texture characteristic of antlers.

Burl thuja handle material

Moroccan burl thuja is a rare, beautifully patterned type of wood native to North Africa; its beautiful rare wood has been praised for millennia, and its oil is used for various rituals. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the nodules on the root system; our hunting knife handles are also made from this. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a dotted, wrinkled pattern, with a pleasant fragrance.

Choice of decorative rivet for wood handle (paid service)

For wooden handles, metal decorative rivets can be chosen upon request. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is knobby, and the rivet cannot be inserted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy matching their color, and black or colored resin. There are also animal and geometric rivets.

The smooth (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and vizsla. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed in the hunting knife handles in the following arrangement: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of smooth (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this, you can select the appropriate option under the "Decorative rivet in the handle" option above. The current prices of the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected upon request after choosing the wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

The vast majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed, as we receive many orders, and unfortunately, you should expect a waiting time of a few weeks.

We can only craft the engraved hunting knives after an order is placed, as the engraving must be done before the blade is heat-treated, because in this state it can still be engraved. After heat treatment, it is too hard for the engraving to be done by hand.

Important information about the custom design

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is custom-made. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used – such as antler and wood – may differ per piece, so no two knives are exactly the same.

The product photos illustrate the nature and possible design of the given model. The individual selectable details shown in the pictures – such as rivets, decorations, or engravings – may differ from the selected version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the custom choices provided on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a flaw, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
