Premium quality hunting knife, Bertalan Farkas model 08

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

The 08 hunting knife is one of our most popular models. It is a large, heavy, all-purpose hunting knife. Its handle fits comfortably in the palm, and its blade is suitable for all hunting tasks.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the basics of professional knife making in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively handcrafting hunting knives in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and many satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knives on his hunts, allowing him to actively test them in the field.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected quality materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality; accordingly, their design fully meets the needs of hunters.
  • The heart of the hunting knives is the German Krupp N-695 steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed 59-60 HRC hardness. Bertalan Farkas cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet himself, grinds, tempers, and sharpens them. Every shape is his own design. The edge profile of the hunting knife is razor-sharp. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made of high-quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, as requested. The handle materials can be selected according to your preference. Some handle materials are available for an additional charge.
  • The hunting knives also come with a high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheath in a design appropriate for the model. (Included in the indicated price.) The leather knife sheaths are also artisanal masterpieces handmade by Bertalan Farkas; he cuts and sews them himself.
  • Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an additional charge.

Hunting knife engraving (additional service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas using traditional hand chiseling. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an additional charge.

Only monograms and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

It consists of the initials of the last and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. The Hungarian digraphs (Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc.) count as one letter; please place a period after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • Top image: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • Bottom image: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Includes 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend it for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, please select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" drop-down menus when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of red deer stags. We only use selected, top-quality deer antler as handle material. The result is very beautiful, with a contrasting, knotty texture characteristic of antler.

Burl thuja handle material

Moroccan burl thuja is a rare, beautifully patterned type of wood native to North Africa; its beautiful, rare wood has been praised for millennia, and its oil is used for various rituals. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the nodules on the root system, and we make the hunting knife handles from this. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a spotted, wrinkled pattern with a pleasant scent.

Optional decorative rivet for wood handles (additional service)

For wood handle materials, metal decorative rivets can be selected as desired. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is knotty and the rivet cannot be fitted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy corresponding to their color, and black or colored resin. There are also animal and geometric rivets.

The plain (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and vizsla. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed in the hunting knife handles in the following arrangement: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of plain (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this option, you can select the appropriate choice under "Decorative rivet for the handle" above. The current prices of the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer various decorative rivets that can be selected as desired after choosing the wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

A very large proportion of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made to order, so unfortunately, because we receive many orders, you should expect a waiting time of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed, because the engraving must be done before the blade is heat-treated, as it is still engravable in this state. After heat treatment, it is too hard to be engraved by hand.

Important information about the custom design

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is custom-made. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used – such as antler and wood – may vary from piece to piece, so no two knives are exactly alike.

The product photos illustrate the nature and possible design of the given model. Some selectable details shown in the images – such as rivets, decorations, or engravings – may differ from the selected version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the individual choices specified on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a flaw, but a feature of every finished piece.
