Premium Quality Hunting Knife, Bertalan Farkas Model 10

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

The Model 10 hunting knife is designed for those seeking a larger knife with a wider, more curved blade, which makes it particularly well-suited for skinning due to its shape. Furthermore, in the hands of an experienced user, it is also perfectly capable of handling all other hunting tasks. Its larger size and curved handle make it a truly comfortable piece to hold.

The Maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the professional basics of knife making in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively crafting hunting knives by hand for over 40 years in small quantities. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of knives sold and satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knives on his hunts, actively testing them in real-world conditions.

Features of the Hunting Knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife using selected high-quality materials.
  • The primary characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality; accordingly, their design fully satisfies the needs of hunters.
  • The soul of these hunting knives is the German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed hardness of 59-60 HRC. Bertalan Farkas cuts the desired knife shape from the steel sheet himself, and performs the grinding, tempering, and sharpening personally. Every design is his own. The blade features a razor-sharp edge. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Customizable handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from high-quality genuine stag horn or tropical hardwood, according to preference. Handle materials can be selected based on individual needs. Some handle materials are available for an extra charge.
  • The hunting knives come with a high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheath, designed specifically for the model. (Included in the indicated price.) These leather sheaths are also handcrafted masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas, who cuts and stitches them himself.
  • Customizable bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an extra charge.

Hunting Knife Engraving (paid service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas in the traditional way, using a hand chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an extra charge.

Only initials and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

It consists of the initials of the surname and first name, a maximum of 2-3 letters. Combinations like Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc., count as one letter; please place a dot after each letter. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • Top image: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • Bottom image: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Consists of 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, please select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" dropdown menu when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle Materials

Stag horn handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of red deer stags. We use only selected, top-quality stag horn as handle material. The result is very beautiful, with a contrasting, bumpy texture characteristic of the antler.

Thuya burl handle material

Moroccan thuya burl is a rare wood with a beautiful pattern native to North Africa; its beautiful rare wood has been praised for millennia, and its oil is used in various ceremonies. The most beautiful part of the wood is found in the nodules of the root system, not the trunk, and we craft our knife handles from this. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color, a dotted, wrinkled pattern, and a pleasant scent.

Optional decorative rivets for wood handles (paid service)

For wood handle materials, metal decorative rivets can be selected upon request. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for stag horn handles, as the surface of the antler is uneven and the rivet cannot be fitted neatly.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy matching their color, and black or colored resin. There are both animal-themed and geometric rivets available.

The simple (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal-themed and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and vizsla. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed in the hunting knife handles in the following configuration: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of simple (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this, you can select the appropriate option above under "Decorative rivet for handle". The current prices for the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected upon request after choosing a wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

A large majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed; because we receive many orders, unfortunately, one must expect a waiting period of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be prepared after an order is placed, as the engraving must be performed before the blade is heat-treated, because only in this state can it be engraved. After heat treatment, it becomes too hard to be engraved by hand.

Important information about custom designs

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is custom-made. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used – such as antler and wood – may vary from piece to piece; therefore, no two knives are exactly alike.

The product photos illustrate the character and possible design of the given model. Certain selectable details visible in the images – such as rivets, decorations, or engravings – may differ from the selected version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the individual choices specified on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a defect, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
