Premium Quality Hunting Knife, Bertalan Farkas Model 14

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

The Model 14 hunting knife is one of our most popular models. It is an excellent, small-sized all-purpose hunting knife. We recommend it for those who are looking for a smaller piece that still fits the hand perfectly and is capable of performing all hunting tasks.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the professional basics of knifemaking back in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively hand-crafting hunting knives in small quantities for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and many satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knife on his hunts, actively testing them in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected high-quality materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality; accordingly, their design fully meets the needs of hunters.
  • The heart of the hunting knives is German N-695 Krupp steel, which undergoes heat treatment to reach a guaranteed 59-60 HRC hardness. Bertalan Farkas personally cuts the desired blade shape from the steel sheet, grinds, tempers, and sharpens them himself. Every design is custom-made. The edge geometry of the hunting knife is razor-sharp. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, depending on your preference. Handle materials can be selected as desired. Some handle materials are available at an extra charge.
  • The hunting knives come with a high-quality, also handmade genuine cowhide leather sheath in a design appropriate for the model. (Included in the indicated price.) The leather sheaths are also handmade artisan masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas; he cuts and sews them himself.
  • Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available at an extra charge.

Hunting knife engraving (surcharge service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas traditionally by hand using a chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an additional fee.

Only monograms and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

It consists of the initials of the last and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. The Hungarian digraphs (Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc.) count as one letter; please place a dot after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • In the top picture: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • In the bottom picture: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Consists of 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend it for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, please select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" drop-down menus when placing your order, and enter the appropriate data in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from the antlers of the red deer stag. We exclusively use selected, top-quality deer antler as a handle material. The result is very beautiful, with a contrasting, gnarly texture characteristic of antlers.

Burl tuja handle material

Moroccan burl tuja is a rare, beautifully patterned wood native to North Africa, whose beautiful rare wood has been praised for millennia, and its oil is used for various ceremonies. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk, but in the nodules on the root system, from which we also make the hunting knife handles. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a spotted, convoluted pattern with a pleasant scent.

Optional decorative rivets for wooden handles (surcharge service)

For wooden handles, metal decorative rivets can be selected as desired. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is gnarly and the rivet cannot be fitted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, in an alloy corresponding to their color, and black or colored resin. There are also animal and geometric rivets.

The plain (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those shown in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful animal and other motif decorative rivets. The most popular motifs are the stag, wild boar, and pointer dog. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed in the handles of the hunting knives in the following arrangement: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of plain (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this option, you can select the appropriate choice under the "Decorative rivet in the handle" option above. Current prices for the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected as desired after choosing a wooden handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

A large majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after ordering. Since we receive many orders, unfortunately, you should expect a waiting period of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after ordering, as the engraving must be done before the blade is heat-treated, because it is still engravable in this state. After heat treatment, it becomes so hard that the engraving cannot be done by hand.

Important information about the custom design

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is made individually. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used—such as antler and wood—may vary from piece to piece, which is why no two knives are exactly the same.

The product photos illustrate the character and possible design of the given model. Certain selectable details visible in the pictures—such as rivets, decorations, or engravings—may differ from the chosen version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the specific selections made on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a defect, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
