Premium quality hunting knife Bertalan Farkas model 15

⏱ Made to order – lead time: 4–6 weeks

Model 15 was released in 2017; its design is that of a more robust skinning knife, specifically suited for skinning larger game (wild boar, red deer). Its handle fits comfortably in the palm, providing good support. Beyond skinning, it is also excellent for performing other hunting-related tasks.

The maker, Bertalan Farkas

Bertalan Farkas began mastering the fundamentals of knife making in the 70s and opened his own business in the early 90s, meaning he has been actively crafting hunting knives by hand for over 40 years. His hunting knives combine decades of knowledge and experience, resulting in thousands of hunting knives sold and many satisfied customers.

Bertalan Farkas is a hunter himself, so he is fully aware of what a hunter needs when it comes to a good hunting knife. He typically carries his own knives on his hunts, actively testing them in real-world conditions.

Features of the hunting knives:

  • 100% handmade hunting knife, made from selected quality materials.
  • The main characteristic of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives is high functionality; their design fully satisfies the needs of hunters.
  • The heart of the hunting knives is German Krupp N-695 steel, which undergoes heat treatment to achieve a guaranteed hardness of 59-60 HRC. Bertalan Farkas personally cuts the desired knife shape from the steel plate, grinds, hardens, and sharpens them himself. Every design is his own. The hunting knife features a razor-sharp edge. The knives are remarkably sharp.
  • Choice of handle material: The handles of the hunting knives are made from quality genuine deer antler or tropical hardwood, depending on preference. Handle materials can be selected as needed. Some handle materials are available for an additional charge.
  • The hunting knives come with excellent quality, handmade genuine cowhide leather sheaths in a design appropriate for the models. (Included in the listed price.) The leather sheaths are also handmade artisan masterpieces by Bertalan Farkas, who cuts and stitches them himself.
  • Choice of bolster material: bronze or stainless steel. Stainless steel is available for an additional charge.

Hunting knife engraving (additional service):

The engraving is done by Bertalan Farkas traditionally by hand with a chisel. Hunting knife engraving can be requested for an additional charge.

Only monograms and numbers can be requested; the master does not undertake full names or words.

This consists of the initials of the surname and first name, maximum 2-3 letters. Sz, Cs, Gy, Ty, etc. count as one letter; please place a dot after the letters. E.g.: A.B.C., Sz. T., K. Cs., etc.

Engraving options:

  • In the top picture: Monogram + oak leaf decoration
  • In the bottom picture: Monogram without decoration

Engraving a number on the other side of the blade: Consists of 1 number, e.g., 40, 2023, etc. We recommend this for birthdays and anniversaries.

If you would like monogram and/or number engraving, please select one of the options from the "Monogram engraving" and/or "Engraving on the other side of the blade" dropdown menu when placing your order, and enter the appropriate details in the fields that appear.

Handle materials

Deer antler handle material

One of the most popular hunting knife handle materials is made from red deer stag antler. We only use selected, top-quality deer antler as handle material. The result is very beautiful and contrasting, with the textured surface characteristic of antler.

Burl thuya handle material

Moroccan burl thuya is a rare, beautifully patterned wood native to North Africa, celebrated for its beautiful, rare wood for thousands of years, and its oil is used for various rituals. The most beautiful part of the tree is not in the trunk but in the burls found on the root system, and we also make hunting knife handles from this. It is characterized by a beautiful reddish-brown color and a spotted, convoluted pattern with a pleasant scent.

Optional decorative rivet for wood handles (additional service)

For wood handle materials, metal decorative rivets can be selected upon request. (Unfortunately, this is not possible for deer antler handles, as the surface of the antler is textured and the rivet cannot be fitted nicely.)

The decorative rivets are made of metal, from an alloy corresponding to their color, and black or colored resin. There are also animal and geometric rivets.

The plain (geometric) rivets may differ slightly in appearance from those in the photo.

We also offer very beautiful decorative rivets with animals and other motifs. The most popular motifs are deer, wild boar, and pointer. These rivets are 8-10 mm in diameter. They are placed into the hunting knife handles in the following configuration: 1 pair of figurative rivets with 2 pairs of plain (geometric) rivets.

If you would like to take advantage of this option, you can select the appropriate choice under the "Decorative rivet in the handle" option above. The current prices of the rivets can be found in the same menu.

We offer several types of decorative rivets, which can be selected as desired after choosing the wood handle material.

Why do I have to wait so long for a hunting knife?

The vast majority of Bertalan Farkas hunting knives are made after an order is placed; since we receive many orders, unfortunately, one must expect a waiting period of a few weeks.

Engraved hunting knives can only be made after an order is placed, because the engraving must be performed before the blade is heat-treated, as it can still be engraved in this state. After heat treatment, it becomes so hard that the engraving cannot be done by hand.

Important information about the unique design

Every Bertalan Farkas hunting knife is made individually. The color, grain, pattern, and shape of the natural materials used—such as antler and wood—may vary from piece to piece, which is why no two knives are exactly alike.

The product photos illustrate the character and possible design of the given model. Some of the selectable details shown in the pictures—such as rivets, decorations, or engravings—may differ from the chosen version. When ordering, we always craft the knife based on the individual choices specified on the product page.

The unique appearance of natural materials is not a defect, but a characteristic of every finished piece.
